Discounts for traveling the world
Travel insurance and travel assistance: where the savings that matter most are
If there is one thing where it is not worth skimping on, it is insurance. But you can pay less for the same coverage, and that is where the discount makes the difference. If you are traveling through Europe, furthermore, it is not optional: for the Schengen area, insurance is a mandatory requirement. Our top recommendation is clear, and below we also leave an alternative for those who book from Argentina.
If there is something you shouldn’t cut corners on, it’s travel insurance. For us, IATI is one of the best options on the market: clear, reliable, and without hidden fine print.
🎯 Recalculando Viajes exclusive benefit
✅ 5% discount on all IATI insurance policies
✅ In specific campaigns (like Black Friday) the discount goes up to 15%.
✅ 24/7 customer service in Spanish and medical expense coverage.
✅ No deductibles (in most plans)
✅ Ideal for Europe, (meets Schengen requirements), long trips, digital nomads, and backpackers.
In addition, all IATI policies cover COVID-19 medical expenses, up to the contracted amount.
👉 Important TIP: for the discount to be applied automatically, always enter through our link. If you go directly to the IATI website, there is no way for it to be loaded. If you want to see everything in detail (coverage, examples, and our experience), we tell you all about it in our complete IATI insurance guide.
Are you booking travel insurance from Argentina? Option to pay in pesos and installments
This is for the minority who still contract from Argentina (you, or your family traveling from there). IATI charges in euros, so if you want to pay in pesos and installments with an Argentine card, there are two local alternatives:
- Asegura Tu Viaje: the largest assistance comparator in Latin America. You quote and compare over 350 plans in one place and pay in pesos, in installments. If you find a lower rate, they will match the price.
- Go Assistance: Argentine assistance with direct service, in up to 6 interest-free installments (and up to 12 in campaigns), with telemedicine and luggage coverage. You receive the policy instantly.
In summary: if you pay in euros (which is most common if you live in Spain or are in Europe), IATI with 5% is unbeatable. If you book from Argentina and need installments, check out the two above. If you want to dig deeper, we have a comparison of the best travel insurance.
Accommodation with discount: comparing is saving
Accommodation is usually the biggest expense of any trip, so every euro counts. Our way of not paying more than necessary is simple: we always compare before booking. We use Booking, Expedia, Hotels.com, Vrbo, Agoda and also the direct booking price.
Discounts on Accommodation:
Generally, Booking has the best discounts.
🏨 Accommodation with discount – Booking.com (up to 20% OFF)
Booking is our favorite platform for booking accommodation due to its flexibility and variety.
💡 Where is the Booking discount?
With the Genius program, you can access:
✔️ Up to 20% discount at hotels and apartments
✔️ Free breakfast or upgrades (depending on the accommodation)
✔️ Automatic benefits when booking frequently
You don’t need coupons or codes: the discount activates on its own.

That’s why we travel with Holafly almost everywhere. It is an eSIM (virtual card), so you don’t have to look for a physical chip or queue at the airport.

Activities, excursions and free tours 🎟️
To really get to know each destination, guided tours and excursions are very worthwhile, especially when you arrive in a new city and don’t know where to start. We use Civitatis in Europe mainly (it has the most activities in Spanish) and GetYourGuide worldwide to book tours, skip-the-line tickets, and activities with flexible cancellation (key if your plan might change).
➪ Check out tours and activities here
One piece of advice we always give: in many cities, there are free tours (you walk with a local guide and leave whatever tip you feel appropriate). They are a great way to get your bearings on the first day and support guides who work hard. Combine them with a paid excursion for what you are really interested in, and you have the best of both worlds.
Flights and transport: getting around Europe spending less
In flights there is no “magic coupon”, but there is a rule that has saved us a lot of money: compare before buying and don’t fall in love with the first price. We use Kayak as a comparator to see at a glance which airline and route are most convenient.
Keep in mind when flying cheaply within Europe: try flexible dates (moving the trip by a day or two can change the price quite a bit), see if a nearby airport is better, and watch out for low-cost airlines, which add baggage fees that sometimes equal a traditional airline. In our guide on how to plan your trip, we tell you the complete step-by-step process.
And to move by land (train, bus, or ferry between cities and countries in Europe), the most convenient thing is to use a comparator that gathers all options in one search, instead of going to each company’s website. In many cases, the train or bus is cheaper than flying… and you save the airport. 😉

Cards and money for paying in Europe
If you live in Europe or are going to be traveling between countries, it is convenient to have a card with no commissions for consumption abroad and a good exchange rate. The most used options by travelers to pay in euros (and other currencies when you leave the eurozone) are digital accounts like Revolut, N26, or Wise: free account, European IBAN, and you pay without hidden surcharges.
– No account management or maintenance fees on Standard plans.
– 24/7 customer support in the app.
– Free Euro IBAN account
N26: Free virtual debit card. Mastercard.
– Open an account in minutes and enjoy 100% mobile banking.
– Get a virtual card and 2 free ATM withdrawals every month (standard).
– Less flexible on currency exchange (Mastercard conversion applies)
Wise Card
Wise: It is our favorite for exchange or payment in other currencies.
It is a multi-currency account: you can hold and switch between euros, dollars, pounds, and many more at the real exchange rate, the market one, without the surcharge that the bank usually charges you.
The card converts itself to the currency of the country where you are, so it is ideal if you move between the eurozone and destinations with another currency (United Kingdom, Switzerland, etc.).
How to get the most out of all these discounts
Gathering discounts is good, but real savings appear when you combine them well. This is what we do on every trip:
- Book the important things in advance. Insurance, flights, and accommodation get more expensive as the date approaches. Closing them early (with flexible cancellation) freezes the price.
- Always enter from the correct link or with the correct code. It is the only way for the discount to be applied. Without the link, there is no benefit.
- Compare before paying. Same hotel, same dates, different price depending on the platform. Thirty seconds comparing can be several euros less.
- For Europe, insurance is mandatory. If you enter the Schengen area you need coverage yes or yes, so take advantage of the 5% from IATI instead of paying the full rate.
- Build your budget before leaving. Knowing how much you will spend avoids surprises. For that, we made a free app to calculate your travel budget.
And before closing your suitcase, don’t forget to review our luggage checklist so you don’t arrive at the airport with that “I forgot something” feeling. It happened to us more than once… hehehe.

Frequently asked questions about travel discounts
How do I get the 5% discount on IATI insurance?
You have to enter IATI from our link so that the 5% discount is applied automatically when quoting. If you go directly to the official website, there is no way to load it. The benefit applies all year round and, in specific campaigns, can reach up to 15%.
Is travel insurance mandatory to travel through Europe?
For the Schengen area, yes: you need coverage of at least 30,000 euros in medical expenses, valid in all those countries. All the plans we recommend for Europe meet that requirement. Although it is not mandatory in other destinations, traveling without assistance is a risk that is not worth taking.
What discount does Holafly have and how do I apply the code?
Holafly offers a 5% discount all year round on any eSIM. To apply it, write the code RECALCULANDOVIAJES at checkout, or enter from our link, which already has it loaded. In special campaigns, the discount may be higher.
Where is the Booking discount?
You don’t need a coupon or code: with the Booking Genius program you automatically access up to a 20% discount, free breakfast, or upgrades on selected accommodation, depending on your traveler level. Regardless, we recommend you compare prices between platforms before booking, because the same accommodation may have a different price on each one.
Do these discounts have any extra cost for me?
None. The price you pay is the same (or lower, thanks to the discount). Some links are affiliate links: if you book through them, we receive a small commission at no additional cost to you. This way you support our work and help us keep this content free and updated.
